Director of Extreme Cold Weather Shelter
Director/PIC (Person In Charge) needed for Severe Cold Weather (overnight) Shelter for HIV+ guests opening when temperature drops below 30. PIC will be point contact for volunteers including organizing, scheduling & coordinating training of volunteers. PIC will be on site each night shelter is open. (Shelter is located at UCC, 2941 NE Ainsworth St., Portland, OR 97211)
RESPONSIBILITIES include (but not limited to): Managing volunteers when shelter is open, facilitating team work to the end of maintaining a welcoming space for guests, monitoring guests’ activities to ensure positive treatment of space and of said guests and being versed in and responsible for implementation of current Multnomah Co. guidelines for prevention/handling of communicable diseases, e.g., Covid19;. PIC will work with Coordinating Committee to design & execute needed training for volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree, human/social services field or two years experience relevant to PIC position. Prior experience working in a shelter and/or working with people experiencing homelessness, mental illness and substance use, as well as successful experience working with ethnic, racial, economic & sexually diverse populations.
COMPENSATION: Range of $750 – $1000 per month. Work will span October – March.
