EMO’s Annual Community Awards & Celebration Dinner. 5 p.m. Reception & Silent Auction, 6:30 p.m. Dinner & Awards Presentations, at the Hilton Hotel, 921 SW Sixth Ave., Portland. This year’s list of honorees includes: “Ecumenist of the Year,” Mary Jo Tully, Chancellor, Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon; “Two Pauls Award” in honor of interfaith cooperation, Rabbi Benjamin Barnett of Beit Am Jewish Community in Corvallis, The Rev. Elizabeth Oettinger of First Congregational Church UCC in Corvallis and Emir Mohamed Siala of Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center in Corvallis; “Louise Hunderup Religious Education Award,” Nancy Haught, Religion/Ethics Writer, The Oregonian; “Vollum Ecumenical Humanitarian Award,” Marcy Westerling, founder, Rural Organizing Project; “Ecumenical Service Award” (posthumous), for the late Robert Ingram, who was Director of the City of Portland’s Office of Youth Violence Prevention & member of International Fellowship Family. Save Your Congregation Energy and Money. 2:30 to 5 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1771 W. Harvard Ave., Roseburg. Geared to the needs of congregations, this workshop will cover key principles of energy stewardship for congregations, low-cost and no-cost measures to save energy expenses, and funding energy efficiency projects for religious facilities. The main speaker will be Kathleen Newman, PhD, OIPL energy consultant. Presented by EMO’s Oregon Interfaith Power & Light and cosponsored by Energy Trust of Oregon. Workshop is free but suggested donation of $5 to $25 are welcome. Refreshments and materials will be provided. The End the Debt Crisis Tour
Kelvin Hazangwi is a leading human rights and social justice activist. Before joining the ZIMCODD Board, he worked as its Senior Programmes Officer. Currently, Kelvin is the Executive Director of PADARE / ENKUNDLENI / Men’s Forum on Gender. He has organized national campaigns on trade justice, anti-privatization and has participated actively in the national, regional and international social forum processes.
Listen and Learn about global economic justice! Come to any or all the public events where Kelvin will be raising awareness about global economic policies and speaking about the history of the debt crisis, lessons for developed countries as the debt crisis moves north, current efforts toward greater transparency and achieving broader economic justice in the Global South and the Global North.
